As well as being a historic canal village, Metamora Indiana is also known as the home of fudge and sweet shops.

At Mr Fudge's Confectionery on Main Street visitors can watch as fudge and brittles are poured out on a marble slab and worked into delicious treats. Donna Monroe grew up learning the tricks of the trade, you can watch a video of her in action on Youtube just like the old time drug store sodas. Mr Fudge's is open Tues-Sun from 10 to 5, and most holidays. Their phone number is 765-647-4956.

Granny and Her Helpers Old Fashion Candy Store, also on Main Street, makes their fudge on premises, but their big feature is the wide selection of "penny" candy. Wax lips and bottles, Mary Janes and root beer barrels; just like you used to find at your local candy store back in the day. Homemade buckeyes and potato candy are popular items here as well. Granny and her helpers can be found here Tues-Sun from 10 to 5, April through December. Their phone number is 765-647-3877.

Grannie's Cookie Jars and Ice Cream Parlor, at the corner of Columbia Street by the canal boat dock, will amaze you with the shelf after shelf of cookie jars, salt & pepper shakers, But the highlight of many a visit to Indiana's canal town is buying ice cream served up in a hand made waffle cone from this unique shop. This is one of the shops in town that is open year round, usually by 10 AM, 7 days a week. Phone number is 765-647-1708
